Job Description
Duties:
Verification of Insurance Eligibility: Make that the patient's policy is active on the day of service by contacting insurance companies by phone or online
Complete Benefit Breakdown: Get precise information about out-of-pocket maximums, co-payments, deductibles, and co-insurance.
Pre-Authorization Identification: Find out if a Primary Care Physician (PCP) referral or a Prior Authorization are needed for the planned treatment or service.
Verify "In-Network" versus "Out-of-Network" benefits and look for any particular coverage limits or "Benefit Caps."
COB (Coordination of Benefits) Check: Determine the "Primary Payer" using coordination criteria and ascertain whether the patient has secondary or tertiary insurance.
Accurate Data Entry: To guarantee the billing team has a clear roadmap, accurately record all validated benefit information in the Patient Management System (PMS).
Provider & Patient Briefing: Clearly inform the front desk or patient counseling staff of any high-deductible warnings or "Non-Covered" status.
Documentation Maintenance: For audit and "Timely Filing" protection, keep track of reference numbers and the names of insurance representatives you speak with.
Focus Skills:
Medical Insurance Literacy: Excellent knowledge of US payer systems and different plan types (HMO, PPO, EPO, POS, and Indemnity).
Communication & Interviewing: The capacity to probe insurance representatives with questions that go beyond simple "Yes/No" responses.
Detail Orientation: Excellent accuracy when entering exact dollar amounts and alphanumeric insurance numbers.
Time management: The ability to manage a large number of verifications every day in order to fulfill the clinic's appointment schedule.
Terminology Proficiency: Knowledge of medical codes (CPT/HCPCS) to pose targeted coverage inquiries about the planned course of treatment.
