Responsibilities:
Conventional Lathe Operation: To perform turning, facing, boring, knurling, grooving, and parting operations, mount, assemble, and safely run conventional center lathe machines.
Blueprint & Drawing Interpretation: To determine the necessary part dimensions, limits, and fits, read and examine technical manufacturing drawings, engineering blueprints, and process sheets.
Precision Thread Cutting: To cut precise internal and external metric and British Standard threads, set up the gearbox ratios on the lathe machine.
Material Setup & Workholding: To ensure minimal rotational runout, secure raw material metal bars or irregular castings precisely in 3-jaw self-centering chucks, 4-jaw independent chucks, or between lathe centers.
Cutting Tool Selection and Grinding: Choose the proper carbide-tipped or High-Speed Steel (HSS) cutting tools; manually grind tool bits to adjust rake, clearance, and cutting edge angles for various metals.

Required Skills:
Manual Hand-Wheel Agility: Outstanding muscular coordination to smoothly operate carriage wheels, compound rests, and lathe cross-slides to produce exact surface finishes.
Precision Metrology Fluency: Expert practical experience with bore gauges, thread pitch gauges, outside/inside micrometers, and analog and digital vernier calipers.
Fundamentals of Machining Mathematics: The ability to calculate precise feed rates and spindle speeds (RPM) using cutting tool profiles and material structural hardness
Workpiece Alignment Expertise: Excellent structural capacity to precisely align workpieces in 4-jaw chucks within allowable micron limits using magnetic base dial indicators.
Deductive Tool Wear Analysis: The capacity to identify tool bluntness early by examining changes in machined surface roughness, tool vibrations, or chip color profiles.
