Job Description
Duties:
Component Assembly & Fitting: To properly fit individual machinery parts into functional sub-assemblies, mark, file, saw, drill, and tap raw metal castings and plates.
Blueprint Reading and Marking: Use height gauges and dividers to accurately mark (scribe) workpieces by reading and interpreting structural diagrams, mechanical engineering drawings, and technical restrictions.
Precision Measurement: To verify component dimensions and clearance limitations down to the necessary micron tolerances, use combination squares, dial test indicators, vernier calipers, and micrometers.
Machining and Bench Work: Modify, chamfer, or rework out-of-tolerance parts using standard workshop equipment such bench drill presses, pedestal grinders, power saws, and manual lathes.
Fastener & Joint Execution: Use a range of technical procedures, such as standard bolting, keyway cutting, pinning, reaming, and basic structural tack welding, to secure structural components.

Focus Skills:
Bench Fitting Competency: Expert manual abilities to create flat, smooth mating surfaces between metallic components using filing, scraping, chipping, and hand-lapping.
Expert ability to interpret analog and digital precision metrology instruments without making parallex mistakes is known as engineering measurement literacy.
Tolerance & Fits Interpretation: Technical engineering fit classes and limit bounds are well understood.
Tool Handling Agility: Extremely skilled with manual workshop equipment, such as pipe benders, impact wrenches, pneumatic drills, and grinders.
Physical endurance is the ability to move big iron castings, use heavy hand tools, bend, kneel, or perform long shifts in small industrial areas.
