It has three campuses: Main Campus (Akoka), College of Medicine (Idi-Araba), and a recently created campus.

Establishment (1962): Created by the University of Lagos Act of 1962 to produce a professional workforce for Nigeria's development.
Initial Growth: The university was built in three phases between 1962 and 1970.
Faculty Expansion: The Teacher Training College merged with the university in 1967 to become the Faculty of Education. The Faculty of Engineering was established in early 1964.) The School Authority requires all candidates applying for admission into any of its courses to possess Five (5) O’ Level Credit Level Passes at not more than two (2) sittings to include English Language and Mathematics and three (3) other subjects relevant to course.
