It is a chronic autoimmune skin condition that affects the life cycle of skin cells.
There are several types of psoriasis, each with its own distinct characteristics.

Here are some of the most common types:
1. Plaque psoriasis: Also known as psoriasis vulgaris, appears as raised, red patches covered with silvery–white scales. These patches are known as plaques. Symptoms of plaque psoriasis can be itchiness and pain and this often occurs on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. The various types of psoriasis that come under this type are scalp psoriasis and the medicine of scalp psoriasis treatment aims to alleviate different symptoms depending upon the particular individual.
2. Guttate psoriasis: Psoriasis which begins in childhood or early adulthood and is characterized by small, teardrop-shaped red spots on the skin, and is triggered by bacterial or viral infections, such as strep throat, is known as guttate psoriasis.
3. Inverse psoriasis: It appears as smooth, red patches of inflamed skin in areas where skin rubs against skin, such as the armpits, groin, and under the breasts. Inverse psoriasis is more common in people who are overweight or have deep skin folds.
4. Pustular psoriasis: This form of psoriasis is characterized by white pustules (blisters filled with pus) surrounded by red, inflamed skin. These pustules may appear on localized areas of the body, such as the hands and feet (palmoplantar pustulosis), or can be widespread (generalized pustular psoriasis).
5. Erythrodermic psoriasis: This is a severe and rare form of psoriasis that can affect the entire body. It causes widespread redness, severe itching, and shedding of scales in sheets. Erythrodermic psoriasis can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
6. Nail psoriasis: Psoriasis can also affect the nails, causing changes such as pitting, discoloration, thickening, and separation from the nail bed. Nail psoriasis can be challenging to treat and may accompany other forms of psoriasis.
7. Genital psoriasis: A type of psoriasis that just affects the genital region is called genital psoriasis. Skin patches that are thick, red, and scaly occur as a result of the fast accumulation of skin cells that characterize the autoimmune skin disorder psoriasis. It can cause pain, itching, and discomfort when it affects the genital region, which can have a serious negative influence on a person's quality of life and sexual health.
8. Face psoriasis: Given that it affects a conspicuous location and can lead to social and emotional anguish for those who have it, psoriasis on face can be particularly difficult. Redness, scaling, dryness, itching, and occasionally pain or discomfort are possible symptoms. It's vital to remember that each person's ailment will manifest differently, both in terms of severity and extent.
